The Forth House

Chapter Eight

Something hurled Billy back through the bathroom when he rushed in. And slammed him on the floor. When he raised up, he could see a shadow run down the hall. He got up and ran into the bathroom to help Laura. She was crying and shaking.

Billy tried to put his arms around her she pushed him away sobbing. “Where were you? Where were you, Billy? Something was touching me I felt it lick my neck and my face.”

“It’s just a dream, you had a nightmare.”

“No!! No!! This is not a dream! I told you the other day I saw something, and you come up with your shit!” Laura stood up and pushed Billy away.

“You stay away from me, don’t you come near me.”

She run out of the bathroom and grabbed her purse and the keys to their truck.

“Wait, take the car it’s your car Laura. I’ll find out what happened, I’ll be busy today but call me on your lunch break. I love you baby.” Laura took the keys to the Camaro, walked out the front door and got in the car. The car was facing the house. As Laura got in she saw a light on in the upstairs bedroom.

She laid on the horn until Billy came out the door. “Look, the upstairs bedroom has a light on. Tell me I’m dreaming.”

“I am going up there right now.”

“I am getting out of here, get in the car. We can come and get our belongings after daylight.

“I can’t do that Laura I have to finish repairs on this place I promised Tom I would finish the repairs before we move out.”

“Fuck Tom we would not be in that house if it had not been for him.” Laura sped off in the Camaro. She was still shaking after she got to town. She called Sharon.

“Hello.”

“Sharon this is Laura.”

“Hello honey are you crying? What’s wrong?”

“Can I come over and talk to you?”

“Sure, where are you?”

“I am pulling into your driveway now.” Laura still shaking got out and walked to Sharon’s door. Sharon led her over to her couch.

“Laura what has happened to you? Whose car is that? What’s going on?”

“We were at the house, Billy and I, our first night sleeping in the master suite. He bought me the car yesterday, it was there when I got home from work. After waking up at three o’clock in the morning, I wanted to take a bath before I cooked Billy’s breakfast. When I went in there to bathe, I felt a chill, then something pinched me.”

“What pinched you?”

“I don’t know Sharon.” Laura broke down sobbing again. Sharon hugged her and tried to calm her down. “I screamed for Billy, but he could not get the door open. He kicked it open, but he saw nothing. Then he tried to tell me I was dreaming.”

“Laura stand up I want to have a look at you okay.”

“Okay.”

Sharon looked over Laura’s body. When she turned her around, she noticed what might be bite marks.
